Last summer weekend before school starts! Take the kids to create some art, ride in a bike race, check out farm animals at boulder county farms, compete in a ninja competition at the warrior playground, and go indoor rock climbing. Happening this weekend in and around Boulder!

Saturday Children’s Art Workshop at Dairy Arts Center

Ages: Ages 6 – 12

Release your inner abstract artist in this workshop for children ages 6-12 at the Dairy Arts Center! Children will explore what makes art abstract and be encouraged to express themselves through an abstract oil pastel art project. Parents and guardians are welcome to stay and participate or drop children off for this 90-minute workshop.

B Strong RIDE

When: Saturday, August 12

Where:  Celestial Seasonings, 4600 Sleepytime Dr, Boulder, Colorado

Time: 7:30AM – 12PM

Cost: $10 Participating Kids 10 & under (Mini B riders must be accompanied by an adult on site, the adult need not be registered to ride), $55 Participating Kids 18 and under (accompanied by a riding adult), $95 Participating Adults

Ages: All Ages

B Strong, hosted by Bicycle Village, is a family event with outstanding food and entertainment throughout the day. During and after the ride, Celestial Seasonings will be open for tours and tastings. There are also two great museums within a mile: Leanin’ Tree Museum of Western Art and, Shelby American Collection. B Strong Riders can choose from four fully-supported route choices with lavishly-stocked aid stations: Mountain Loop (69 miles), Red Zinger 38 Loop (38 miles), Countryside Loop (24 miles), Mini B – for Children 10 & under (1 mile loops). Parents need not register (but must accompany kids) for Mini B riders to participate. Enjoy a post-ride party with live music, craft beer & great food – families & non-riders welcome! B Strong funds a complete year of cancer care at the Center for Integrative Care at Boulder Community Hospital and also benefits the George Karl Foundation.

Tinker Time Drop-In Art Class

Where:  Tinker Art Studio, 1300 Yellow Pine Ave. #B, Boulder, CO 80304

Time: 10AM – 12PM

Cost: $12 – first hour, $6 – each additional half hour per child

Ages: 18 months – 12 years

Tinker Time at Tinker Art Studio is an opportunity for children to engage in art exploration. The studio offers several stations set up with a variety of materials as well as ideas and techniques for use of materials are offered. Children have complete creative control and enjoy moving freely between stations. Paints, oil pastels, clay, print making, wire and wood sculpture, stamping, cut paper collage… are some of the mediums found during Tinker Time.

Parents can drop off their artist off anytime during Tinker Time to run a few errands, take a break at the coffee shop, or stay at Tinker watching their artist at work. All ages are welcome, but if your child is under 4, we ask that a parent or caregiver remain with them in the studio. Tinker Time is limited to 16 students, so if you want to be guaranteed a spot, it’s highly encouraged that you reserve a space in advance.

Enjoy a Sunday afternoon exploring unique farms throughout Boulder County and celebrating our diverse agricultural community! During Farm Around Boulder County Farms, participating farmers are opening their doors and inviting you to experience our abundant agriculture at the peak of the growing season. This family-friendly event includes farm tours, demonstrations, animal petting, tastings, and more. Select farm stands will also be open for fresh-from-the-source purchases. Pack up the car (or bike), bring your friends and family, and share in a fun afternoon with our local farmers!​ Free for kids! A portion of the proceeds will be donated to local agriculture in an effort to promote and preserve our Boulder County farms.

Youth Beginner’s Ninja Competition

Time: 9AM – 3PM

Cost: $35 per participant, Spectators are FREE.

Ages: 6-12 Years Old

Warrior Playground Beginner’s Ninja Competition. For those who are new to the sport of ninja obstacle training, this is a great way to get started and test your ninja skills. All participants will get a chance to compete on 3 different Ninja Courses. There will be 2 divisions. Youth Ages 6-9 from 9 am to Noon and Youth Ages 10-12 from 12:30 to 3 pm. Each competitor will get a chance to run 3 different obstacle courses.

Open Gym is a great opportunity for families to try ABC Kids Climbing for their first time.  Kids are welcome to explore our facility, with parent supervision, to find the area in which they will have the most fun.  ABC has top ropes, auto-belays, ziplines, slides, and bouldering for kids of all ages to enjoy! No climbing experience?  No need to worry!  ABC’s expert staff will give all new families a tour complete with rules and basic climbing guidelines to get you started in the right direction.
