The last weekend of April is here. Celebrate Dia de Los Ninos, make some art, learn something cool from one of CU’s science wizards, play with baby goats, sing, dance and play! All happening this weekend in and around Boulder.

Día is an enhancement of Children’s Day, which began in 1925. Children’s Day, was designated as a day to bring attention to the importance and well-being of children. In 1996, author Pat Mora linked the celebration of children with literacy to found El día de los niños/El día de los libros. The Celebration culminates at the end of April! Around the country, a special celebration of linking children to books, home languages and cultures is held at schools, libraries, museums, churches, parks, and bookstores. Broomfield will be celebrating Dia de Los Ninos by holding multi-lingual storytimes all day, as well as dance and music from around the world and a ton of fun learning opportunities! The Fiesta Colorado Dance Company will be closing the day with its Fiesta Spring Concert at the Auditorium at 6:30PM. Food trucks will be on-hand.

CU Wizards Presents Sink or Swim!

This month’s CU Wizards show, Sink or Swim! is presented by Professor Mathias Weber. Join him for a dive into Archimedes Principle to better understand why icebergs float and bubbles always travel up! This is a free STEM show for students ages 5 & up. For more info, click here.

21st Annual Erie Arbor Day & Earth Day Celebration

Erie is hosting its 21st annual Erie Arbor Day & Earth Day Celebration! Activities include tree tree seedlings, free educational information, drawings for prizes, certified Arborist Q & A booth, hands-on tree plantings, and kids’ craft area. This event will go on rain or shine, it will not be rescheduled for any reason. Erie Arbor Day is sponsored by the Town of Erie, the Erie Tree Board, and Tree City USA.

Tinker Time at Tinker Art Studio

Time: 9:45AM – 10:45AM or 11:00AM – 12:00PM

Cost: $12/child per hour

Ages: 18 months – 12 years

Tinker Time at Tinker Art Studio is an opportunity for children to engage in art exploration. The studio offers several stations set up with a variety of materials as well as ideas and techniques for use of materials are offered. Children have complete creative control and enjoy moving freely between stations. Paints, oil pastels, clay, print making, wire and wood sculpture, stamping, cut paper collage… are some of the mediums found during Tinker Time. Parents can drop off their artist off anytime during Tinker Time to run a few errands, take a break at the coffee shop, or stay at Tinker watching their artist at work. All ages are welcome, but if your child is under 4, we ask that a parent or caregiver remain with them in the studio. Tinker Time is limited to 16 students, so if you want to be guaranteed a spot, it’s highly encouraged that you reserve a space in advance.

WOW! Children’s Museum‘s 1st Día del Niño (Day of the Child) Celebration will include stories, dances, and activities that honor the Mexican origins of this special holiday! All activities are included with Museum admission. Activities include: dance performance by El Latir de Mexico, Share Your Dreams craft activity, scavenger hunt, “Color My World” activity with CHAC (Chicano Humanities & Arts Council), and children’s stories in Spanish with Boulder Valley Family Literacy Program.
