The Town of Superior began as a coal mining community in the 1800s and remained a tiny town of about 250 people until the 1980s when the suburban developments of Rock Creek Ranch began. Superior continues to grow, with new homes being built now in the recently developed town center. The town has become a hot spot for families looking for great public schools (all within Boulder Valley School District), a short commute, and an outdoor lifestyle all in a small community. As far as education goes, Superior public schools are part of Colorado’s most sought-after district, Boulder Valley School District. Superior’s public schools are highly rated not only by parents but by teachers, paying teachers the highest salaries in the state. Superior was named one of the country’s Best Places to be a Kid in 2015 in Money Magazine, citing the local education system as well as access to outdoor recreation opportunities. In 2019, the town was ranked #2 Suburb to live in America by Niche, earning A+ marks in various categories, including health & fitness, education, public schools & outdoor activities. Superior is also heralded for its close proximity to Boulder, but its relative affordability compared to living in the city. Thinking about moving to Superior?
