February is bringing a TON of performances, including special events with the Boulder Opera Company, the Boulder Ballet, tons of live music events and theater shows. In addition, there are Valentines events, outdoor activities and more, all happening in and around Boulder this February.

Boulder Opera presents this season’s Family Series: Puss in Boots! Everyone ages 3+ is welcome. Can Puss win the princess’ hand for his master? Will he outwit the evil ogre? Don’t miss the amazing Boulder Opera singers and orchestra that will turn this fairytale into an afternoon of magical and adventurous opera. The show on Feb 1st at 4pm will be in Spanish with subtitles. Show runs one hour, and followed by a Q&A with the cast.

Alice in Wonderland at Broomfield Auditorium

Louisville’s own Danse Etoile Ballet pre-professional ballet studio is performing Alice in Wonderland at the Broomfield Auditorium. This family-friendly story ballet presents Lewis Carroll’s classic story with all new original choreography by Marie-Jose Payannet, following Alice on her delightfully weird adventures after she falls down the rabbit hole. The show will have original compositions by Bruce Klepper.

Led by renowned bassist and founder Aston “Familyman” Barrett, and joined by original Wailers guitarist Donald Kinsey, The Wailers give audiences around the globe the opportunity to experience their unique and innovative sound. From 1972 to 1980, Bob Marley & The Wailers recorded, toured, and performed before countless millions worldwide. Have jeans that are too long for you? Trousers with rips in them? Shirts that hang on you like a cheap tent rather than flattering your figure? Bring those ill-fitting and well-worn pieces to repair at The Sewing Rebellion rather than throwing them away, and leave with clothes that are better than new! Bring your pants to mend, garments to alter, sewing problems which need solutions or an old piece of cloth to combat the use of plastic bags, by producing an East German shopping bag. Different repurposing project instructions are provided each month, and/or come by with your own sewing/altering projects to work on. Sewing machines and sewing tips provided. New Voices for Climate Justice

When: Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 5 PM – 8:30 PM

Join KGNU Community Radio and FLOWS at the University of Colorado Environmental Center for a community conversation about engaging underrepresented voices in climate work. FLOWS will discuss their efforts to make real change on an individual and community level with diverse students and low-income residents. They will also expand on some of the stories featured during a year-long partnership with KGNU exploring a different paradigm within sustainability work. Boulder County residents, industry professionals, public officials, organizers, and the public are invited to participate. Refreshments and Spanish language translation will be provided.

This event will be held at the Dairy Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public.

NoBo Art District First Friday Art Walk

NoBo Art District’s First Friday is a FREE self-guided tour of artists’ studios and creative businesses in the NoBo Art District. Meet painters, sculptors, photographers, designers and other artists along your stroll through the area.  Attendees will also enjoy live music, demos and special activities in many locations. Located along Broadway from Pine Street to Highway 36.  Follow the polka dots and pink flags to find surprises around every corner. Guided walking tours led by a NoBo Art District member. will visit 4-5 NoBo artists in their studios at 6:30 pm at 4635 Broadway, ACE Community Art Gallery.

When “The Dude” Lebowski is mistaken for a millionaire Lebowski, two thugs urinate on his rug to coerce him into paying a debt he knows nothing about. While attempting to gain recompense for the ruined rug from his wealthy counterpart, he accepts a one-time job with high pay-off. He enlists the help of his bowling buddy, Walter, a gun-toting Jewish-convert with anger issues. Deception leads to more trouble, and it soon seems that everyone from porn empire tycoons to nihilists want something from The Dude.

CU presents the CU Symphony Orchestra featuring Beethoven’s iconic Symphony No. 5 and the world premiere of a new concerto for double bass by Indian composer and violinist Dr. L. Subramaniam, hailed as the leading Indian violinist of our time. Professor of Double Bass Paul Erhard performs the work.

The Backcountry Film Festival is produced by Winter Wildlands Alliance as a celebration of the human-powered experience and a gathering place for the backcountry snowsports community. Winter Wildlands Alliance is a national nonprofit organization that partners with groups like Colorado Mountain Club at the local level to inspire and educate the backcountry community to protect and care for their winter landscapes. Funds raised at each screening stay in the local community to support human-powered recreation and conservation efforts, winter education and avalanche/safety programs and to raise awareness of winter management issues.

The Music From Beethoven’s Funeral: Cherubini Requiem

The Boulder Chamber Chorale and the Boulder Chamber Orchestra continue their fruitful collaborations by performing Luigi Cherubini’s Requiem in C minor. The work was premiered in 1817 at a commemoration service for Louis XVI of France on the 23rd anniversary of his beheading during the French Revolution. The work was greatly admired by Beethoven, Schuman, and Brahms.

Feel free to bring mouth sized cut up celery, carrots, cucumbers, apples and lettuce to feed the animals with. Please leave your furry-family at home as they wouldn’t enjoy staying in the car while you are visiting with the animals.

The Good Life Refuge asks for a $5 dollar donation per person and $10 per family, all to benefit these sweet creatures.

Alpaca Extravaganza 2020

Alpaca Extravaganza features everything alpaca ….including lots of alpacas themselves! Vendors of alpaca yarn, sweaters, socks, hats, gloves and more garments as well as roving and alpaca fiber for artisans. We will also have classes about alpacas and their fiber as well as alpaca kisses. Individual farms and product booths will also be putting on demonstrations such as spinning and weaving throughout the weekend. Be sure to plan enough time to get around to everyone at the event. Information classes begin at 11 am each day and will cover topics about alpaca fiber and processing, raising and breeding alpacas as well as business and tax information.

This free event will be held at the Boulder County Fairgrounds.

When Evening Falls: A Conversation with Stacey Steers

The Glenn Miller Orchestra

The most popular big band in the world today for both concert and swing dance engagements, the Glenn Miller Orchestra has a unique jazz sound. The present Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since, playing an average of 300 live dates a year all around the world. This concert includes dinner at BDT Stage.
