Boulder County Free Day at Colorado Railroad Museum

The Colorado Railroad Museum is proud to offer free general admission and rides behind a historic steam locomotive to all Boulder County residents on Friday, March 30. Catch a ride behind one of the Museum’s historic steam locomotives in vintage passenger cars. The Colorado Railroad Museum features over 100 narrow and standard gauge steam and diesel locomotives, passenger cars, cabooses and G-scale garden railway on our 15-acre railyard. Also, see the exhibit galleries, renowned library, roundhouse restoration facility and working turntable. Admission: Boulder County Residents, Museum Members and Children under 2 are free. CU Museum of Natural History’s Curious Connections in Nature

In the wild world around us, everything is connected. Curious Connections in Nature is a new exhibition at the CU Museum of Natural History that delves into these connections through hands-on activities, multimedia displays, and specimens from the Museum’s collection. The exhibition highlights symbiosis in our bodies, our backyards and beyond. While you are at the museum, check out the ongoing fossils exhibit. In the lower level, kids will love the interactive play and learning area. Right outside the play area parents can enjoy a nice, FREE cup of coffee or tea in the museum’s BioLounge with comfortable seats and inviting atmosphere. Family-friendly bathrooms are located upstairs. Admission to the museum is FREE. The museum is open during Spring Break Monday – Thursday 9-5.

The National Center for Atmospheric Research offers beautiful outdoor spaces and Visitor Center, perfect for a fun day out with the kids. At the Visitor’s Center, kids can learn about weather and climate with interactive displays. Kids can play with clouds and even create their own tornado! Other exhibits include Sun-Earth Connections, Layers of the Atmosphere, Climate Discovery and more. Guided tours are available from 12-1 on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, or you can opt to move through the exhibits on your own. Take a hike at the base of Boulder’s amazing flatirons with gorgeous views.  NCAR offers a cafeteria that is open weekdays (except holidays) for breakfast, 8:00 am – 9:30 am and lunch, 11:30 – 1:30 pm (Cafeteria accepts only cash). Players will receive specialized soccer training on the fundamentals, technique, and tactics necessary to play at a highly competitive level. Clinics will be overseen by coach Peter Ambrose. Known as one of the most unique and quirky festivals in America, Frozen Dead Guy Days takes place in the mountain town of Nederland, just thirty minutes from Boulder. The festival, celebrating its 17th year, features three days of frosty merriment including 30 live bands in heated super tents and outrageous events like coffin racing, costumed polar plunging, the Blue Ball, frozen t-shirt contests and much more. The home-grown frosty fest pays homage to Bredo Morstol, who is frozen in a state of suspended animation and housed in a Tuff Shed on dry ice high above Nederland. Thousands of adventurous, life enthusiasts come to participate in Colorado’s “most frigidly fun festival” and view the events along with local, national and international media and entertainment.

The Tornado Chamber

My kids’ favorite part was hopping into the tornado chamber. A real-life vortex, the chamber is hair-flying fun!

There is so much more to this fantastic museum, including live animals, innovations lab, Ft. Collins history, natural areas, and even a dome theater. The museum is about an hour’s drive from Boulder, but well worth the trip!

The Ft. Collins Museum of Discovery is located at 408 Mason Ct, Fort Collins, CO 80524. The Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10AM – 5PM, Thursday open late until 8PM. Closed Mondays. Experience the adventure with powerful images and music, an immense and challenging dream, for which mankind has strived since the beginning of history. “Dream to Fly” describes the most important milestones on our route to conquering the skies—both in terms of technological breakthroughs, as well as our perceptions on flying itself.

The Town of Erie, along with Erie Parks & Rec is hosting this outdoor and nature-based event! Enjoy overnight camping in Erie Community Park plus other activities such as a variety of vendors, kayak tank, paddle board tank, quad jump, zip line, outdoor movie, light breakfast on Sunday and more! Campsites will not be assigned and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis the day of the event. Pre-registration is still required. Dinner will be available for purchase from the following food trucks: Comida, Mac Shack and Suburban Wiener.
