To ring in the new year, Boulder is letting go of the intensity of the holidays with events that enrich the mind, body, and spirit through fun, community and creativity! Take a painting class, try out goat yoga, dive into the icy waters of the Boulder Res, try aerial dance, enjoy some live music, show off your talents or take a night hike to witness the supermoon eclipse. All happening in January in the Boulder area.

Boulder Polar Plunge

When: Tuesday, January 1, 2019 from 11 AM – 2 PM

Take the Polar Plunge on New Year’s Day at the Boulder Reservoir to support the mission of the American Cancer Society. Donations support life-saving cancer research and free services for patients such as lodging and transportation. The first 200 registered participants will receive beach towels!

Rocky Mountain Goat Yoga

Rocky Mountain Goat Yoga is hosting yoga with goats this winter, at the indoor heated barn at Lucky Weather Ranch! Bring good vibes and love. If you need to rent a mat, you can for $5.

A celebration of the people, by the people, a peña is a casual and participatory social event centered around live music that celebrates community through music, poetry, and food. Featuring musicians Adolfo Romero (Chile), Elisa García (Uruguay), Leo Corona (México), and Francisco Marques (Brazil), and poet María Ferndanda Iwasaki (Perú/Spain).

Dia de los Reyes / Family Free Day at Museum of Boulder

The Museum of Boulder will ring in 2019 and celebrate Three Kings Day / Día de Los Reyes with a free day at the Museum! Enjoy free admission to all Museum exhibits, plus: music, snacks, and crafts. Aerial Open House at Frequent Flyers

Friends and Family Day at Color Me Mine

On Sundays, groups of 3 or more pay 1/2 off studio fees at Color Me Mine! Choose your own ceramic piece to paint, sit down, enjoy a cup of tea and a chat while you paint your very own creation. Color Me Mine will do all the clean up for you, as well as glazing and firing your masterpiece!

Not Snow White and her posse of disenchanted princesses in the hilarious hit musical that’s anything but Grimm. Forget the princesses you think you know, and say hello to DISENCHANTED! A musical comedy satire that gives fairy tales the bird, DISENCHANTED! was nominated for a 2015 Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical and a 2015 Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best New Musical. The original fairy tale princesses are none too happy with the exploitation they’ve suffered in today’s films, books and dolls. In the Trenches: A Parenting Musical

In The Trenches is a new musical comedy about the hilarious, touching, and messy moments involved in parenting young children, presented by CenterStage Theatre Company. The show features a series of musical vignettes that follows a family and their friends through their journey to understanding post-baby life. Similar in style to Avenue Q, Book of Mormon, and I Love you, You’re Perfect, Now Change, the show contains adult humor and language and is recommended for mature audiences (roughly 16+).

Lafayette Oatmeal Festival and 5K Walk/Run – 2019

23rd Annual Lafayette Oatmeal Festival is a popular family event focusing on healthy lifestyle. A unique festival including an Oatmeal Breakfast, 5K Walk/Run and the chance to donate blood. Oatmeal Breakfast will be held at Pioneer Elementary School. 5K Walk / Run starts promptly at 9:30 am at Colorado Music Festival & Center for Musical Arts. Dogs on leashes only. Annual Snowshoes & Good Views – Always Choose Adventures

It’s that glorious time of year. Grab your snowshoes, we will be marching through the woods on a winter wonderland adventure. This event is ACA’s 4th year doing this snowshoe at Brainard Lake. It’s a perfect chance to try snowshoeing for the first time, meet new friends, and get more familiar with winter adventures, if you haven’t yet. For more details, click here.

Boulder County Bombers Harry Potter Tournament

When: Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 3:30 PM – 10 PM

Join the Boulder County Bombers for a magical mix up roller derby tournament, Hogwarts Houses Tournament. Watch teams compete in the name of all four houses of Hogwarts. Doors open at 5 pm, first whistle at 6 pm. Each bout will be 2 20-minute periods. Colorado Craft Cocktails bar will be on site, where there will be beer & food for sale as well. This is a family friendly event.

Along the way, Mira and John will explore the connection between science and spirituality. Mira will share stories about the chants from her studies in yoga and meditation, while John will drop some amazing facts about astronomy and the universe. Mira Devi’s band will offer up an east/west fusion of Hindu and Buddhist inspired mantras, sonic soundscapes, singing bowls, guitar, harmonium, dilruba, hammered dulcimer, sitar, and tablas…all while soaring through the universe! 2019 Frost Giant Race

When: Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 11 AM – 12 PM

The Annual Frost Giant will be held on Sunday, January 27th, 2019 in beautiful Estes Park, Colorado. Lace up your running shoes and grab a warm hat to partake in this fun and adventurous 5K race. The 5K will start at the Estes Park Town Hall entrance on MacGregor Ave. The race begins on pavement and then becomes cross country.
