This month, enjoy the Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival, the final days of skiing at Eldora, the opening of the Boulder County Farmers Market, Earth Day celebrations, as well as tons of live music, comedy, theater and learning events. The 5th annual Boulder Arts Week will take place on March 30 to April 7, 2018, at venues throughout the city. Celebrating Boulder artists, the week is Boulder’s only large-scale, inclusive celebration of our community’s vibrant arts and cultural offerings, promoting and celebrating our city’s thriving creativity. Free and open to the public, Lafayette’s 14th annual Cesar Chavez Celebration will kick-off at 12:00PM at Alicia Sanchez International School (655 Sir Galahad Drive), where a Convivio featuring free refreshments, live entertainment, children’s activities, and student presentations, will be held. A “Seeds of Justice” march will follow at 1:30PM with departure from Alicia Sanchez International School. The march will conclude at the Lafayette Public Library where the Lafayette premiere screening of Motus Theater’s film, which is dubbed in Spanish and which depicts the lives of undocumented youth through the eyes of law enforcement leaders. A corresponding discussion will take place from 2:30 – 5PM. Children’s activities, including youth-facilitated Reading to End Racism circles, will also be coordinated. This event is brought to you by the Lafayette Youth Advisory Committee with support from the Empowerment Center of East County, Lafayette Police Department, Lafayette Public Library, Lafayette Recreation Center, and Motus Theater.

Spring officially arrives in Downtown Boulder with the Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival. Festival goers can witness the vibrant Tulip Fairy, along with pint-sized fairies (including the fabulous Flora the Fairy) and elves, parade around the Pearl Street Mall ‘welcoming the tulips’. This beloved springtime tradition in Boulder features special events and activities for girls and boys and celebrate the more than 15,000 tulips that adorn the world renowned Pearl Street Mall throughout the spring season. The event includes live stage performances including Taylor Shae & Jeff and Paige, face painting, free activities for children and more!

The Conference on World Affairs is a year-round unit of the University of Colorado Boulder, offering events without admission fees to the Boulder community, students, and the public. The most popular event is CWA Week, taking place in early April each year. CWA Week is a festival of ideas featuring 200 panels, 100 speakers and performers, over 5 days, attracting more than 70,000 in cumulative attendance each year. The Conference also present the CWA Speaker Series where thought leaders in their field join together for a campus visit with an evening discussion open to all.

The Dash & Dine Run 5k run is Boulder’s favorite spring tune-up race series. This family friendly race is a series of six races Tuesday nights in April and May held at the beautiful Boulder Reservoir in Boulder, CO. The Dash & Dine 5k is all about friends, fun, and a family atmosphere with a mix of veterans, beginners, and seasoned professionals all racing together. After each race you’ll have a chance to relax, kick back with friends and make a few more while enjoying the post-race dinner, awards ceremony, and raffle prizes.

Museum of Boulder presents speaker Adam Bradley, professor of English at CU and Director of the Laboratory for Race and Popular Culture. His most recent book, The Poetry of Pop, explores the poetic artistry of popular songs, from the Beatles to Beyoncè. He’ll unlock Boulder’s hidden—and not so hidden—history in popular music, from Jello Biafra to Jewel, Common to The Chainsmokers. Looking for something fun and FREE to do with your children on BVSD’s Spring In-service Day? Hop into Spring with Thorne Nature Experience at the Sombrero Marsh Environmental Education Center. Kids will enjoy nature crafts, a fire-making demo, face-painting, nature hike explorations with Thorne Staff, and dancing and singing in rainbow socks with the best nature performers –  Jeff & Paige at 11AM! Pack a picnic lunch and a picnic blanket to enjoy the mountain views. Thorne will have light refreshments donated by in-kind sponsors. This event will mostly be outdoors, rain or shine. It’s the bash of the season and a celebration of another fantastic winter! Eldora Mountain Resort‘s Spring Beach Party and Pond Skim is a day of fun, splashing, and sending a season off with some fun. Grab your best beach outfit and test your skimming ability to rock out the last day of the season. Dress up in your best beach attire! The Pond Skim is open to all ages and on the day of the event we will have a registration/waiver desk setup for the adventurous ones who want to give it a go. University of Colorado’s Cultural Events Board and Project Nur will host Hasan Minhaj at Macky Auditorium. Hasan Minhaj is a comedian, actor, host, and writer. In November 2014, he made his debut as a full-time correspondent on the Emmy and Peabody award-winning The Daily Show. Hasan’s comedy special on Netflix, Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King, has been received with rave reviews. Recently, Hasan had the prestigious honor of hosting the annual White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington, DC.

Live Birds! Flying Squid Rocket Launching! And – while on the subject of looking up in the sky – be sure to visit Fiske Planetarium for Astronomy Day from 1PM – 10PM. The museum will provide maps so you can easily move from one venue to the other.

Centennial State Ballet’s The Sleeping Beauty

Centennial State Ballet will perform The Sleeping Beauty, a ballet in a prologue and three acts, for their Spring gala production. The well-known fairy tale​is the story of a baby princess, condemned at her christening by an evil fairy to prick her finger and die on her 16th birthday. She is saved by the gift of the good Lilac Fairy, who declares the princess will only sleep until awakened by the kiss of a prince. The two main conflicting forces of good and evil serve as a theme throughout this fairy tale, replete with a king and queen, fairies both good and evil, a beautiful princess and dream prince and magical stage effects. Audiences of all ages will be entranced as the beloved story comes to life onstage through the artistry of the Centennial State Ballet performers. Choreography by Kristin Kingsley, inspired by Marius Petipa. Musical accompaniment features the Centennial State Ballet Chamber Orchestra. **Special Ballet Petit performance is perfect for younger audiences. Enjoy a narrated version of The Sleeping Beauty performance in a theater setting. See Princess Aurora, Prince Desire, and the Lilac Fairy up close when you take your picture with the characters after the show.

Microbreweries for the Environment is an annual benefit concert that was started in 1993 by student volunteers at the University of Colorado Environmental Center. The Boulder Theater is the premier producer, with support of veteran volunteers. The event is possible because of the MBE committee donating time and local brewers donating kegs of beer. Live music includes Amoramora + Intuit band with The Sweet Lillies. The concert benefits Girls on RockColorado Ocean CoalitionCAN’d Aid Foundation, and CU Environmental Center. Ages 21+
